Thailand tourists can find out more about one of the country's most influential rulers at the King Rama II Memorial Fair next month.

To be held during February 2012 at the King Rama II Memorial Park in Samut Songkhram province, the annual event is designed to honour the second king of the Rattanakosin period, who played a major role in bolstering Thailand's cultural profile.

Known in his time as Ek Akkharakhattiyasinlapin, or the Great Artist, he was designated a Unesco World Heritage Person in 1968, with the Tourism Authority of Thailand regularly holding celebrations to commemorate his legacy.

During the fair, performers from the local fine arts department will entertain audiences with traditional Khon dancing, as well as shadow puppet plays and demonstrations of cooking inspired by Thai literature.

Additionally, Bon plants and agricultural produce will be showcased in special competitions, while attendees will also be able to browse a wide array of products, gifts and souvenirs for sale.

King Rama II Memorial Park is located in Amphawa county, marking the location where the beloved monarch was born.

Culture vultures can find a diverse selection of Thailand hotels at AsiaRooms.com, such as the Rueanmalai Homestay.
