Industry: Energy
Press Release Summary: SGS is currently actively involved in project certification
of several new offshore wind farm projects in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the
UK and France. SGS is the leading certification and inspection company for onshore
and offshore wind energy life cycle services
Press Release Body: Certification of onshore and offshore wind farms, and wind
turbine projects in general, continues to grow as a Global Service Line for SGS.
Consequently, the SGS Wind Energy Centre of Excellence located in Hamburg, Germany
and the SGS Global Wind Energy Network are currently significantly expanding their
staff with new technical wind energy experts and inspectors. The contracts now
signed cover Project Certification for the following Offshore Wind Farm Projects:
# Borkum West II - 80 x 5 MW (=400 MW), Germany
# MEG I - 80 x 5 MW (=400 MW), Germany
# Belwind Offshore Wind Farm, Bligh Bank 110 x 3 MW (= 330 MW), Belgium
# Gode Wind II - 80 x 5 MW (=400 MW), Germany
Futhermore, SGS is also partly involved in some of the Project Certification phases
for the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm in the UK and as well for other offshore
wind farm projects in UK, Germany and France.
In addition, SGS is currently involved in both onshore and offshore wind farm
projects offering an integrated asset integrity conditioning monitoring inspection
service package, Mechanical Integrity Management System (MIMS) for wind turbines and
wind farms in operation. This service package includes, for example, risk-based
inspection condition monitoring for wind turbine blades and wind turbine gear boxes.
"SGS's extensive international network of wind energy competences and wind turbine
expert inspectors are also providing inspection and certification services during
the manufacturing, commissioning and in-service phases, and we believe this is one
of the main reasons why SGS has been selected as the certification company for these
offshore wind farm projects." announced Jan Behrendt Ibsø, Global Director,
Renewable Energy.
