For many college students, trying to find a job in a new career can be demanding. Fortunately, there are programs such as co-op education where students can learn and hone there craft in a real life setting which can be beneficial for both student and employer. Just ask Mimmo Gallo, President and owner of BelenGift.com an internet based business which sells all sorts of gift baskets online such as wine gift baskets, corporate gift baskets, fruit gift baskets and Christmas gift baskets. They operate its gift basket company from its headquarters in Mississauga, Canada. They recently hired Jason Azevedo, a student from the Business Administration – Marketing program at Sheridan College and really likes what he sees, “Young people in College are willing to learn and take on challenges, and this experience has been very satisfying from my perspective as Jason’s understanding of the gift basket industry has grown by leaps and bounds since he started at BelenGift” He also says, “We’ve been able to bring both our needs to the forefront and use his personal skills in a worthwhile manner for both parties.”
Jason agrees that the knowledge gained while working for BelenGift have helped him gain new and important skills which may one day be applied to further his career. Not only has he educated himself more with gift baskets he has also had the opportunity to work with real people in the industry. This is important as making connections and gaining contacts are important to further yourself in business. “I have discovered quite a big difference between textbook learning and real life lessons in a working environment,” he says. “This has been a valuable learning experience for me, an asset that I now have to put toward my career, and is something I could only have learned through the co-op program and BelenGift.”
Jason has done many presentations on BelenGift.com and there a variety of different gift baskets such as wine gift baskets and fruit gift baskets. He has also helped reach business clients and helped sell corporate gift baskets during his tenure at BelenGift.com. Jason’s new perspective and his business backdrop have made him an essential member of BelenGift.com. “We are leaving the door open for more co-op students who are interested in the study of online business and the gift basket industry.
