Santa Monica Bars and Restaurants say CHEERS for Hurricane Katrina Victims

Released on = September 3, 2005, 11:17 am

Press Release Author = Terence Mulholland, CHEERS

Industry = Non Profit

Press Release Summary = Los Angeles area bars and restaurants group together to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina victims.

Press Release Body = In early 2005, as the extent of the Asian Tsunami was becoming known, a group of more than forty Santa Monica and Westside Bars, Restaurants and Businesses joined
the local fundraising initiative "CHEERS The Campaign for Humanitarian EmErgency ReSponse" holding a variety of events and raising an amazing $70,000 in one week.

"CHEERS did so well in January that we now wish to surpass our previous total and help the victims of the devastating Hurricane Katrina by raising $100,000 and once again bring our community together in an effort to help those in desperate circumstances." said Terence Mulholland, organizer of CHEERS and CEO of Beyond Home
Theater, a Santa Monica based home theater installation company.

All proceeds of the bar's and restaurant's events shall be donated directly to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army charities giving aid in the disaster areas.

Other businesses have also joined in the effort by donating goods and services for raffle or auction and many employees have offered to donate tips and salary. "This disaster has hit a nerve with many people who have been looking for a way to help these victims and CHEERS aims to provide an avenue which is both fun and rewarding."
commented organizer Paul Diskin, of O'Briens on Main in Santa Monica.
